• Installation.
Here’s what you’ll need:

• Timber shelves: 3/4" to 1" thick, cut to your desired length and depth (typically 5 shelves for low ceilings, 8 for high ceilings).

• Mild steel flat bar: 1 3/16" wide, 1/2" thick, running floor to ceiling. For a clean finish, cut into the ceiling by 10mm and decorate around it.

• Vertical bars: Use 2 per side unless fitting into an alcove. For units over 1/2 metre wide, add 1 front-facing bar for every additional 1/2 metre.

• Brass screws: Size 16, 14, or 12 flat-head, 3" screws — fixing through the steel bar into the timber shelves.

• Clam brackets: Use 1 bracket per 1/2 metre of timber to secure the unit to the wall.

Also helpful: an attractive tradesperson — the mild steel can take a little time to drill on site.
