Decorative Studs
Handmade Decorative Studs in Cast Bronze
Our collection of decorative studs and upholstery buttons is designed for furniture, upholstery and interior architectural detailing. Sand-cast and hand-finished in Britain, these small bronze fittings bring character, texture and a sense of craftsmanship to both traditional and carefully considered interiors.
Unlike mass-produced decorative hardware, sand-casting creates subtle variations in the surface of each piece. These natural imperfections are part of the character of the material, giving the fittings an individual quality that works particularly well alongside timber, leather and traditional upholstery fabrics.
Big Stud, Cast Bronze
The Big Stud, Cast Bronze is a bold decorative fitting with a simple pyramidal form. Its distinctive shape and textured surface make it particularly suitable for furniture and architectural detailing where a more substantial decorative element is required.
The raw bronze finish has a warm, understated appearance that complements aged timber, natural materials and traditional interiors.
Used individually or arranged in a repeated pattern, the Big Stud introduces a strong geometric detail without unnecessary ornament.
Little Stud, Cast Bronze
The Little Stud, Cast Bronze offers a smaller interpretation of the same pyramidal design.
Its compact proportions make it suitable for more delicate decorative applications, particularly where a series of smaller fittings is preferred to one larger statement.
The Little Stud can be used to introduce a subtle bronze detail to furniture and interior joinery, providing a pleasing contrast against painted surfaces, timber and upholstery materials.
Sand-Cast Bronze Upholstery Button
Our Sand-Cast Bronze Upholstery Button brings the character of traditional bronze casting to upholstered furniture.
Designed as an alternative to conventional fabric-covered upholstery buttons, it introduces a small but distinctive metal detail to leather and fabric upholstery.
Particularly effective on traditionally upholstered chairs, benches and banquettes, the bronze button adds warmth and character while allowing the surrounding upholstery to remain the principal feature.
Natural Bronze and Traditional Craftsmanship
All three designs celebrate the natural qualities of cast bronze. The metal is left unlacquered, allowing its surface to develop a gradual patina through handling and exposure to the atmosphere.
At Mark Lewis Interior Design, we believe that small details can have a considerable influence on the character of a room. Our decorative bronze studs and upholstery buttons reflect this approach, combining simple forms, traditional craftsmanship and materials that become more interesting with age.
Whether restoring an antique piece of furniture or commissioning new upholstery and joinery, these fittings offer an individual alternative to conventional decorative hardware.
Material
Made from solid raw bronze and sand-cast using traditional techniques. The unlacquered surface develops a rich natural patina over time, giving each button its own unique character.
Design
A substantial upholstery button with a gently textured surface created by the sand-casting process. Designed to add weight, character and authenticity to upholstery projects, it offers a distinctive alternative to fabric-covered buttons and mass-produced fittings.
Style advice from Mark
Most upholstery buttons are designed to disappear into the fabric. These do the opposite. I like using them where the hardware is intended to be part of the design, particularly on leather upholstery, window seats, banquettes and occasional furniture. The bronze adds a sense of permanence and craftsmanship that only improves with age.
Installation
Designed for professional upholstery applications and should be installed by a qualified upholsterer or tradesperson.

Carefully handcrafted in a British foundry.

Finish Notes
Over time, the raw bronze will naturally oxidise, developing a beautiful patina that adds depth and character to each piece. Subtle variations in colour and texture are part of the appeal and make every button unique.
